Yesterday's Bronze and Copper Clay Workshop was a success! The students all loved working with the base metals, especially after my not so smooth demo! They were all glad that I was the one struggling with the new formula. By the time (20 minutes later) they all got their hands on the clay it was a breeze for one and all. Copper and Bronze Clay are completely different than Silver Clay. We begin with a powder and mix in tiny amounts of water and then work the clay until it feels like silk. It will drape beautifully and doesn't dry out as fast as the Silver Clay. It also is not as brittle as the Silver Clay and the cost is so much less that you can afford to experiment. Because the firing schedule is more involved then than the Silver Clay, I brought home all the greenware to fire in my studio. The kiln has been chugging away since last night and it will take me a couple of days to get through all the wonderful pieces they made. I must have brought home an average of 10 pieces for every student. Prodigious! I will post a some of their works of art next week to show what's been cookin!
Last week in Open Studio we shared the studio with other artists during the Chili Bowl Fundraiser at the SCC. As you can see we managed to work hard and still have lots of fun.
